Navy Blue Boas!
It was football and feather boas at Monday’s BCS National Championship Game between Auburn University and the University of Oregon in Glendale.
It was a long day – tailgating is exhausting – but it was SO much fun! My hubby and his friends were rooting for the Ducks but
I was a Tiger/War Eagle for the day! I’m from the South, so of course, I’m for an SEC team!
We had our navy blue boas & orange feather clips & football shades!
Everyone was sporting fun signs and crazy accessories!
It was just like a big colorful citrus-colored parade!
We went to Tiger Walk, where everyone welcomes the football team
into the stadium, along with the other 50,000 fans!
We went to the ESPN zone & the College GameDay broadcast.
I even got my very own “special shaker”!
“What’s a shaker?” you ask.
I had no idea either.
When my cousin was telling me about these special shakers
that they’ve had for years & years and take to ALL the games, I was baffled.
“Cocktail shakers?” I asked.
“Don’t worry, we’ll bring you one.” she replied.
Come to find out they’re plastic orange & blue pom-poms on a stick that are, in themselves, a form of communication!
I was blown away by these shakers! EVERYONE had shakers!
Even the MEN had shakers and they were not shy about using them!
You shake your shakers for everything!
You shake them to say “hello” to people, you shake them to say “goodbye”,
you shake them when you see people you know, or don’t know,
you shake them during the fight song, keeping time to the music,
you shake them for first downs, touchdowns
and whenever ANYTHING exciting happens.
There’s even shaker etiquette:
I was advised to shake forward so you don’t bonk the person behind you!
I thought that was pretty cool!
I thought it was even cooler when I did, indeed,
have my very own shaker in hand!
Thanks, Glenn & Doris!
I didn’t get to do the Bodygetta cheer
or sing the fight song as much as I would’ve liked –
I mean, jeez, I even practiced them – but both of the school’s bands were great, the beautiful bald eagle flew around the stadium and made everyone cry,
and the giant American flag was furled out across the entire field.
It was just a great experience – and THEN the game started…..
As far as football games go, it doesn’t get any better!
It was a total nail-biter!
Back and forth all night and then it came down to the final two seconds!
Auburn kicked a field goal to win as time expired.
That made the day PERFECT!
What a special event to share with family and friends!
So now that I have all the cheers down and my lucky shaker,
I guess it’s my turn to go down for a visit!
Wwwwaaaarrrrr Eagle, HEY!
