In the nearby town of Deadwood, South Dakota,
we celebrate Mardi Gras with the People Parade!
The weather in the Dakotas, in FEBRUARY
is usually full of blizzards, slush and SNOW!
Here, the big, elaborate floats, full of costumed revelers,
so well-known in New Orleans and the Southern states,
are the exception, rather than the rule!
It can be downright IMPOSSIBLE to pilot those giant contraptions through
the ice and snow, so in the Black Hills, we take to the streets ON FOOT!
Anyone can participate as long as they wear a costume!
This year, for the very first time, our family and friends bundled up in
It was absolutely FREEZING – fortunately those boas keep you toasty warm –
but we had THE BEST TIME being part of the show!
Here are some of the snapshots from our brand-new Mardi Gras tradition –
the People Parade!
